How many rolls of 16mm do I need?
Enter your frame rate, how much finished footage you want and your shooting ratio (how much you shoot for every minute you keep). We’ll work out the feet of film, the number of 100 ft rolls and the cost.
Based on 16mm at 40 frames per foot. Shooting an ARRI 416 or SR3? They take 400 ft loads; ask us for 400 ft rolls. Always bring a spare roll.

16mm Film FAQ
Single-perf. It’s required for Super 16 and works in most regular 16mm cameras. If you shoot an older camera and aren’t sure, ask us before you order.
Yes, anywhere in the United States. Shipping is charged per roll and shown at checkout, along with any sales tax.
Keep unexposed film cool and dry, and out of hot cars. For storage longer than a few weeks, refrigerate it, then let it come up to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation. Get exposed film to the lab as soon as you can.
Shooting outside in good light? 50D for the finest grain, 250D if the light is changeable. Shooting inside under tungsten or at night? 200T for controlled lighting, 500T when light is scarce. Not sure? Tell us what you’re shooting and we’ll recommend a stock.
A 100 ft roll of 16mm runs about 2 minutes 47 seconds at 24 fps. Use the film calculator above: enter your frame rate, running time and shooting ratio, and it works out the rolls and adds them to your cart.
